Training

 EMT Class starts August 10th

Basic EMT class will start August 10th and finish in mid November.  Classes will be held at WinStar Casino, Emergency Services building classroom, next to the Golf Course.  Class will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 8 am to 2pm.  Cost is $450, but Love County residents may recieve scholarships and discounts.  TABE test must be completed prior to start.  Must be age 18.  Contact instructor Natasha West at  natashadwest@yahoo.com  or call 276-3347 ext 259.

 We offer training to the general public as well as healthcare and EMS professionals. We have a dedicated full time Training Officer, full time Fire Service Training Officer, modern classrooms, and videoconferencing capability. As an American Heart Association Training Center for southern Oklahoma and North Texas, we offer the full range of AHA programs. We provide In-House EMS training and refresher training. We participate in the Distance Learning program of Kiamichi Vo-Tech, bringing their Paramedic Program to our facilities through two-way videoconference.

Fees for American Heart Association courses are set by Mercy Health-Love County as a Training Center, and not by AHA.

Courses for the general public include:

  • Heartsaver CPR - Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Laypersons
  • Heartsaver AED - Automated External Defibrillator for Laypersons
  • Heartsaver First Aid - First Aid for the Layperson
  • Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid Pediatric First Aid

We also provide the clinical skills testing portion of any AHA online course.

Courses in EMS education:

Paramedic Programs:

We participate in a distance learning program with Kiamichi Vo-Tech. Classes are held in our classrooms via two way teleconference. Skills are taught by our staff, and clinical hours are available here at Mercy Health-Love County as well as hospitals and EMS agencies throughout the state. College credit hours are earned through Oklahoma State University. The program starts each February and runs for 16 continuous months. Applicants must already hold EMT-Basic status.

EMT Program - Emergency Medical Technician

The next EMT Basic class is planned to begin in 2010.  The 2009 class had to be cancelled due to illness.  The last class concluded December 2008 with a 100% pass rate on the National Registry exam.   For further information on future courses check back in the fall of 09, or contact John Gilliam, Training Officer in the late fall of 09.

Emergency Medical Responder

Formerly known as First Responder, a Dept. of Transportation Course. For volunteer firefighters, law enforcement, and search and rescue personnel.  No course is currently scheduled. Refreshers were successfully completed in August 2009 and May 2010.
